The Aztecs learned from the Maya the cultivation and use of cocoa.
Cacao is derived from the Nahuatl word "Cacahoatl" which means food of the gods, from here derives another word "xocolatl" today known as chocolate and called the aromatic drink that was obtained by placing its fruits in hot water. Cocoa seeds were also used as currency in commerce.
